Hunt: Showdown 1896 Sets a 60K Player Record, Then Gets Review Bombed to Mostly Negative

Crytek's PvPvE bounty hunter relaunched as Hunt: Showdown 1896 on August 15, and within two days it set an all-time Steam peak near 60,000 players while its recent reviews crashed to Mostly Negative, about 34% positive over roughly 6,700 posts. Players are angry about the redesigned UI, new stutter, and performance drops on the CryEngine 5.11 rebuild. Critics landed higher, around 80. Crytek also dropped PS4 and Xbox One with the update.

Marathon's Vault Breaker PvE Mode Shuts Down Today, and Unspent Vault Data Vanishes With It

Bungie closes Marathon's experimental Vault Breaker mode on August 18, the PvE test it extended from an August 4 end date. Vault Data, the mode's currency, disappears when the mode goes offline, so anything left in the Armory is lost. Emblems, weapon styles, and gear bought before the deadline carry into standard Marathon, the studio's PvPvE extraction shooter. Bungie is using the test to build the game's first permanent PvE mode, arriving in Season 3 on September 22.

Battlefield 6's August 18 Update Adds Fighter Jets, Wake Island, and Assisted Flying

EA's Battlefield 6 update 1.4.2.0 goes live August 18 at 08:00 UTC across all platforms, launching the Top Gun event alongside the returning Wake Island map, an expanded Tsuru Reef, two new fighter jets, the Interdictor sniper rifle, and new air-combat modes in Carrier Strike and Gauntlet. A new Airplane Control Assist option flies the jet toward your camera view and manages pitch, roll, and yaw for newer pilots. The patch also touches vehicles, weapons, audio, and underwater play.

Fortnite's Season 4 Override Launches August 20 With Sonic, Persona 5, and Retro Match Hacks

Epic Games dropped the Override launch trailer on August 16, setting Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 to go live August 20. The season leans retro-gaming, with Battle Pass and shop crossovers for Sonic, Mega Man, Persona 5, and Crash Bandicoot, plus cartridge Match Hacks that change round rules and new Sprite mechanics. A futuristic spire replaces the Zero Point at the center of a remade map, with a Green Hill point of interest added.

Fallout 4's August 18 Update Touches Creations, and Bethesda Says Back Up Your Load Order First

Bethesda is pushing a Fallout 4 update on August 18 focused on Creations, the game's paid and free mod platform. The studio is warning players to log in and load a save, or manually save their mod load order, before updating, because they may need to re-download their full Creations list once it goes live. Bethesda says a Skyrim update is also in the works, with details to come.
