ARC Raiders Runs Its Last Expedition Before Pausing the Mode Until 2027

ARC Raiders opened its 5th Expedition on August 21, and studio Embark confirmed it is the last one until early 2027. Expeditions are the game's limited-time seasonal event runs. The departure window runs September 8 to September 29, stretched from two weeks to three, with no last call, so players must sign up while it is open. Embark is pausing the mode to rework tight windows, thin rewards, and rough new-player access. Buffs persist during the break and unfinished Caravans convert to Ermal Vouchers.

Modern Warfare 4's First Beta Patch Turns Down Footsteps and Nerfs the ISO Nightshade

Infinity Ward pushed Modern Warfare 4's first beta patch on August 22, reacting to opening-weekend feedback. Footstep audio drops in volume and range, and the studio lowered time-to-kill after players said guns killed too fast. The ISO Nightshade SMG loses range and headshot damage, the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle gets a shorter effective range, and Frangible Rounds lose slow effect. The patch also adds a 6v6 map, Cachette, and a new cash-grab mode called Inflation.

The First Descendant Drops a Mega Dungeon and Shotgun Hero Raven in Season 4

Nexon launched The First Descendant's Season 4 Episode 1 on August 20. The free co-op looter shooter adds a Mega Dungeon that ends in a boss fight against Karel, a new transcendent weapon system, 11 new weapons, a fresh trials mission, and Raven, a shotgun-wielding Descendant. The First Descendant is a third-person shooter where squads farm gear to power up their characters.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Ships a 500-Fix Patch and Promises Hueys in September

Team17 and Expression Games released Hell Let Loose: Vietnam update 1.2 on August 21 with more than 500 fixes, about a week after the tactical shooter's launch. The studios also laid out a post-launch roadmap. Update 1.5 in September adds the licensed Huey helicopter plus two weapons, the M14 and the Chinese Type 56 SKS, with more vehicles and maps promised through late 2026.

Front Mission 3 Remake and 200-Player Over the Top: WWI Are Free on Steam Until August 24

Steam is running a free weekend on two games through 10am PT on August 24. Over the Top: WWI is a first-person shooter that drops up to 200 players into a single trench battle. Front Mission 3 Remake is a tactical mech RPG whose early story choice splits into two routes. Both are free to play for the window, not free to keep, and your progress and any discount purchase carry over if you buy before it ends.

Gamescom Opening Night Live Returns August 25 With FF7 Revelation and Gears of War: E-Day

Gamescom Opening Night Live airs on August 25 at 11am PT, hosted by Geoff Keighley for roughly two hours of trailers and reveals. Confirmed appearances include Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Gears of War: E-Day, The Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past, Monster Hunter Outlanders, and Silent Hill: Townfall. The show streams free on YouTube, Twitch, and Steam ahead of the main Gamescom floor opening August 26.

Nvidia Ships a Rare Security Driver for GTX 10-Series and Older Cards

Nvidia released a GeForce security update, driver 582.66 WHQL, on August 20 for its older Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPUs, including the still-popular GTX 1080 Ti. Nvidia ended Game Ready driver support for those cards last year, so this is a security patch, not a performance update for new games. It covers Windows 10 and Windows 11.

007 First Light Passes 4 Million Copies and Makes the Case for Single-Player

IO Interactive announced on August 20 that its James Bond game 007 First Light has sold more than 4 million copies since launching May 27, following 2.7 million in its first week. The Hitman studio casts players as a 26-year-old Bond recruited into MI6. A Nintendo Switch 2 version lands later this year, which should push the total higher.
