Delta Force Goes Free on Consoles and Peaks Above 200K Players

Team Jade launched Delta Force on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on August 19, bringing its free-to-play mix of Warfare battles, PvPvE Operations (where squads fight rival players and AI while extracting loot), and the single-player Black Hawk Down campaign to console at no cost. Cross-progression carries operators, Battle Pass, and currency between PC, mobile, and console through one LIPASS account. The console debut pushed peak concurrent players past 200,000, the game's highest activity since launch.

Marathon Ends the PvE Event That Briefly Tripled Its Player Count

Bungie took Marathon offline on August 18 for Update 1.1.5.4 and ended Vault Breaker, the player-versus-environment mode that briefly tripled the extraction shooter's numbers earlier in August. Bungie had already extended Vault Breaker past its original August 4 close. Any unspent Vault Data and items left sitting in the Vault Breaker Armory were wiped when the event ended, so grinders who banked resources without spending them lost them.

STALKER 2 Drops Its Cost of Hope Story DLC and a Free Unreal Engine 5.5 Patch Today

GSC Game World releases Cost of Hope, the first major story expansion for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, today, August 20, on PC, Xbox Series X and S, and PS5. It opens two areas sealed off in the base game, the Chornobyl plant admin buildings and the Iron Forest, with dozens of hours of new quests tied to the Duty versus Freedom faction conflict. A free Update 2.0 ships the same day, moving the game from Unreal Engine 5.1 to 5.5.4 for better performance and stability.

Fortnite Season 4 Override Goes Live Today With a Full Meta Reset

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, called Override, goes live August 20 after a maintenance window that started at 2am ET, with Battle Royale reopening around 6am ET. Epic's tagline is 'Break the Rules, Change the Game,' and leaks point to a Gaming Legends theme for the new battle pass, though Epic has not confirmed that. The season follows the Unstable live event that closed out Chapter 7 Season 3 on August 15.

Modern Warfare 4's Beta Preload Opens Today Ahead of Call of Duty NEXT

Activision opens Modern Warfare 4's Early Access Beta preload today, August 20, at 9am PT, ahead of the beta going live August 21 for players who preordered on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X and S. Call of Duty NEXT streams the same day at 9am PT with multiplayer reveals and developer breakdowns. Activision also posted the beta's PC specs and file sizes so players can clear space before the download unlocks.

Twisted Tower Launches Very Positive as a $13 Carnival Horror Shooter

Twisted Tower, a first-person horror shooter from developer Thomas Brush and publisher 3D Realms, launched on Steam on August 18 to a Very Positive rating around 94% from players and a 79 Metacritic across ten critics. It is a BioShock-style game, meaning an atmospheric single-player shooter with a strange setting, here a haunted carnival built around imaginative toy weapons and short, focused runs. A launch discount drops it to $13.49 through September 1.

Silver Palace Passes 10 Million Pre-Registrations Before Its Gamescom Demo

Elementa Games says its open-world action RPG Silver Palace has passed 10 million global pre-registrations, announced August 18 alongside its Gamescom 2026 and Anime NYC plans. Silver Palace is a detective-driven fantasy game set in the Victorian-styled city of Silvernia, and it will run a playable demo at both events, with Anime NYC running August 20 to 23. No release date is confirmed yet.
