Marathon Bets Season 3 on a Full PvE Mode as Daily Players Fall Below 3,600

Bungie detailed Marathon's Season 3, live September 22, as a rescue plan for its struggling extraction shooter (a PvPvE looter where you raid a map, grab gear, and extract before rival players kill you). The season adds a full PvE mode, new Perimeter areas and encounters, a reworked early-game onboarding, and fresh weapons. Reporting on August 20 pegged Marathon's 24-hour Steam peak at 3,507 players, down 96% from its 88,337 launch peak in March.

ARC Raiders Ties a Free Outfit to Buying a Subway Sandwich

Embark Studios and Subway launched Fuel the Raid on August 20, a promotion that unlocks the exclusive Subterranean outfit in ARC Raiders, the free third-person extraction shooter. Buying a qualifying Subway meal at participating US locations through October 26 gives a single-use code for the outfit, one of three variants, plus two bonus in-game items that rotate weekly. The tie-in runs ahead of the Frozen Trail map update on October 8.

Warzone's New Resurgence Map Zodiac Gets Its First Look at Call of Duty NEXT

Call of Duty NEXT on August 21 gave the first look at Zodiac, a new Resurgence map (Warzone's faster, respawn-enabled battle royale mode) launching in the Modern Warfare 4 era. Zodiac is a compact island built around an industrial research complex, with 10 named points of interest including Admin, Solar, Old Mines, Furnace, and Cooling. It is playable now in the Early Access beta running August 21 to 25.

Modern Warfare 4 Details Its Launch Maps and a Reworked Movement System

Alongside the Warzone reveal, Xbox Wire on August 21 broke down Modern Warfare 4's core 6v6 multiplayer: its launch map list and a reworked movement system tuned for the beta running August 21 to 25. Developers walked through map design and traversal changes players can test this weekend, ahead of the full game's October 23 launch. DMZ, the returning extraction mode, ships with that launch too.

WARDOGS Opens a Closed Beta Before Its September 10 Early Access

WARDOGS, a large-scale tactical FPS, ran a closed beta from August 21 to 23. Rather than battle royale or extraction, it drops three teams into randomized 2km control zones inside larger maps, and the side holding the most players inside the active zone scores, first to 100 points wins. Every life costs an in-game loadout bought with cash earned from kills, objectives, and revives, and that money carries between matches. Early Access starts September 10 at $39.99.

FromSoftware Scraps The Duskbloods' First Network Test After a Server Meltdown

FromSoftware canceled the opening session of The Duskbloods' first closed network test on August 21 after roughly two hours of failed logins and connection errors. The Duskbloods is FromSoftware's Switch 2 exclusive, an 8-player online game in the studio's Bloodborne-adjacent gothic style. The test was scheduled across five time slots through August 23. The studio apologized and said it would work on the servers before the remaining sessions.

Dying Light Is Free to Play on Steam Through August 25

Techland put the original Dying Light, its 2015 open-world zombie parkour survival game, on a free play weekend on Steam from August 21 through August 25. This is a play-for-the-window offer, not free-to-keep, though the game and its Anniversary Edition are 80% off until September 2 if you want to buy in. The weekend lands ahead of the spinoff sequel Dying Light: The Beast, which launches September 19.
