MW4's DMZ Trailer Sends You Into Hajin to Hunt WMDs, and Shooting First Makes You a Target

Activision released the Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Worldbuilder trailer on October 4, the first big look at Call of Duty's returning extraction mode. Squads enter Hajin, a radioactive exclusion zone where South Korea, North Korea, and Russia meet, to stop North Korean forces grabbing chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. Kill other players unprovoked and you earn a Rogue reputation; push it and you become Wanted, letting rivals buy intel on your location. MW4 launches October 23.

Gray Zone Warfare 0.5 Lets One Splint Fix a Whole Leg and Teaches AI to Throw Grenades

MADFINGER Games posted the first Rogue Ops devlog on October 4. Update 0.5 heals by body part, so one splint fixes every break in a leg, caps bleed speed, and measures medical items by volume. All AI can bandage themselves, some factions throw grenades, and Tier 3 and new Tier 4 zones get harder. The largest Combat Outposts (PvP capture points) stop being capturable, and you can run multiple characters with separate PvE and PvEvP progress. Supporter Preview starts October 19, full release October 22.

WARDOGS Clears $100 Million on Steam in Under a Month, Still Behind ARC Raiders and Helldivers 2

Alinea Analytics says BULKHEAD's WARDOGS made $86.9 million on Steam between its September 10 early access launch and the end of the month, passing $100 million gross with pre-orders and 3.2 million copies sold. It still trails ARC Raiders ($125 million) and Helldivers 2 ($130 million) over a similar window. Analyst Rhys Elliott says the shooter still pulls about 250,000 players a day. GamesRadar reported the figures on October 2.

Space Marine 2 Lets You Play Chaos in Siege Mode and Promises a Free Apothecary Class in 2027

Focus Entertainment marked Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's second anniversary on October 2 with a free update and a Year 3 roadmap. Chaos Siege lets players fight as Chaos Space Marines against Tyranids, Cadians, and loyalists across two new sectors. The Crucible system adds Penances, optional debuffs that pay out extra rewards. The One-Handed Hammer arrives for four classes and the Tactical class gets a perk rework. A free Apothecary class, a medic-style Space Marine, is due in 2027.

Gears of War: E-Day Doubles Gears 5's Steam Peak Before It Even Hits Game Pass on October 6

Gears of War: E-Day peaked at 20,374 concurrent Steam players in its first day of early access for premium edition owners, double Gears 5's all-time record of 10,196, Pure Xbox reported on October 2. Digital Foundry praised the Xbox Series S version, which uses the SSD as an extra memory tier. The standard edition and the Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass versions arrive on October 6, Pure Xbox confirmed on October 4.

Dune: Awakening Pulls a Million New Players After Its Console Launch

Funcom said on October 2 that more than 1 million new players have joined Dune: Awakening since its late-September launch on PS5 and Xbox, which landed day one on Game Pass alongside the game's biggest update. Funcom did not split the number by platform or by paid versus Game Pass players. The PC version is 50% off on Steam until October 8.

Dead by Daylight Studio Behaviour Is Hiring for an Unannounced AAA Sci-Fi FPS

Behaviour Interactive, the Montreal studio behind Dead by Daylight, is hiring a Senior Technical Animator for "a AAA sci-fi FPS in Unreal Engine with a high realism bar," Insider Gaming reported on October 4 from a public job listing. The role covers rigs for bipedal and non-bipedal characters, including mechanical setups. Behaviour has not announced the game, and no platforms or dates are known.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, Fatal Fury, and Elta Get Free Xbox Demos This Week

Three notable demos landed on the Xbox Store around October 1 and 2, Pure Xbox reported on October 2. The Castlevania: Belmont's Curse demo carries your progress into the full game, which launches later in October. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves gets a demo months after its full release, and action-platformer Elta: Defy All Gods offers about 60 minutes of play. All three are free on Xbox with no end date announced.

Steam Had Its Best September Ever and Is on Pace for $20 Billion in 2026

Alinea Analytics estimates Steam made $1.6 billion in September, its best September on record and up 13% on 2025, with $5.5 billion for the quarter and $16.5 billion so far this year. Analyst Rhys Elliott expects Steam to pass $20 billion for the first time in 2026, helped by The Witcher 3 Remastered, WARDOGS, and a crowded October slate. GamesRadar reported the numbers on October 2. These are analyst estimates; Valve does not publish revenue.

Capcom Wants RE Engine to Become an AI Game Engine That Writes Code and Tests Its Own Builds

At its Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026 on October 2, programmer Satoshi Ishida said Capcom plans to evolve RE Engine, used in nearly 30 games since Resident Evil 7, into an "AI game engine" under its REX initiative. AI would generate code and run automated test plays to find bugs. Capcom also plans to release some tech publicly for AI training. VGC reported the talk on October 3.

Nacon's $230 Revolution 5 Unlimited Is the First PS5 Controller With a Built-In Screen

Nacon revealed the Revolution 5 Unlimited on October 2, an officially licensed PS5 pro controller priced at $229.99 (£179.99). It is the first PS5 pad with a built-in display, letting you change button mapping, profiles, lighting, connections, and thumbstick sensitivity without software. It ships with a charging dock and builds on the Revolution X Unlimited for Xbox.

Thrustmaster's $750 TGT III Wheel Brings Gear-Shift Haptics to Gran Turismo 7

Thrustmaster revealed the TGT III on October 3, a $750 PS5 and PS4 racing wheel built with Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi and due this Christmas. It uses a Direct Axial Drive motor and adds GT7-specific haptics: Gear Jolt for every shift and Engine Roar, which vibrates the base in time with RPM. Thrustmaster says it will keep updating the wheel alongside the game.
