NetEase Dates Its Free-to-Play Urban RPG ANANTA for January 15, 2027

NetEase and developer Naked Rain announced at Gamescom on August 25 that ANANTA, a free-to-play open-world action RPG set in a modern city, launches internationally on January 15, 2027 for PC, PS5, iOS, and Android. A new trailer revealed a second city called Chongxiao. NetEase says characters unlock through play rather than a gacha system, with paid items limited to cosmetics. Pre-registration passed 17 million.

Discussion Topics

  1. No gacha for characters: real player-friendly move, or too good to be true?
  2. Does a January 15 launch stand a chance in the winter release crush?
  3. Would you play a live-service open-world RPG on PS5, or stick to mobile?
  4. Cosmetic-only monetization: sustainable, or a bait-and-switch waiting to happen?
