Oblivion Remastered Runs Better Than Feared on Switch 2, but the Stutter Stayed

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11. Early hands-on testing with the day-one patch installed found the port more playable than pre-release leaked footage had suggested, though the open-world traversal stutter that has dogged this remaster on every platform for over a year is still present. The full game ships on the cartridge rather than as a partial download.

Discussion Topics

  1. Playable-but-stuttery on Switch 2: acceptable trade for portability, or a pass?
  2. Full game on the cartridge: does that still matter to you in 2026?
  3. Are we too quick to praise 'runs better than feared' as a bar for ports?
